  • Essex County Health/Essex County Utilities Authority Enforce Lot Clean-up

After receiving complaints from three local residents during the last six month Essex County Health/Essex County Utilities Authority apparently required the owner of the vacant lot at 739-745 North 6 th ST, Newark to clean up the land and cease using it to transfer or dump building material. This should bring an end to the regular transportation of building material and waste material to the lot. The owners; NORTH 6TH STREET DEVELOPERS, LLC have been given until Thursday 20th November 2015 to level the land.

    745-11-13-14

This is how the land looked at the time of their inspection Wednesday 12th November 2015.

We expect to get a full copy of the enforcement order and any fines which we will post to this site.

"Remember Your Voice Matters" contact me if you have any local issues or are interested in forming an unofficial local residents group.

  • New Association

    Upper Roseville Neighborhood Association

There is now a core of local residents interested in forming a local residents association.

The proposed association would be a non-profit limited liability company owned by a committee of local residents to serve the interests of its members and local community One proposed name would be “The Upper Roseville Residents Association” and would be open to all residents in an area north of 3rd street, bordering Bloomfield and East Orange.

According to 2008 population data, Upper Roseville has a population of about 15 thousand in an area of 0.72 square miles. Initially, we are likely to concentrate on the area between Bloomfield Avenue and Franklin Street. We do not have a charter or mission statement yet, but it is likely that we would concentrate on promoting local businesses, traffic flow, parking, information about the local area and local planning decisions. We would also actively seek funding for local improvements.

Our first step would be to get sufficiently interested local residents to form a committee and raise the necessary money to form the none-profit company and get liability insurance.

  • Development Cancled

Proposed 739-745 N 6th ST, 32 unit Apartment Building Development Canceled

At the Monday October 18th Planning Meeting in City Hall, the developer withdrew their application for the 32 apartment development.

This means that the development featured in the last newsletter and on the 745N6thStreet.com website is not going to be built.

Any future building will have to go through the planning process including notifying all residents living within 200 feet of the vacant lot.

No construction will be happening on site during the immediate future but we are still unable to predict what will be built on the empty lot.  The 745N6thStreet.com website has been updated and the old plans archived.

Many of the local residents who have objected to the 32 unit apartments see this as a victory and after the planning meeting re-affirmed their resolve to campaign for building an appropriate sized building with ample parking.

  • Breaking News

    Breaking News

The developer withdrew his application prior to the start of today’s planning meeting. Apparently he has dropped the proposal for 32 apartments, so will not be pursuing this design. We will post more information when we get a better understanding of the implications and possible next steps, but it looks like a totally new application will be submitted sometime in the future.

  • Local Newsletter Distributed

    6th & 7th Street Newsletter

On Saturday and Sunday a single sheet Spanish and English newsletter was distributed throughout the local neighbourhood.

150 copies were distributed during which many new residents were made aware of these plans for the first time.

During an informal open meeting Sunday afternoon many residents attended and recorded their opinions on the development.

  • Updated PLans

    Plans have been updated

It is confirmed the plans are for a 32 unit five story apartment building, there is now a plan for the fifth floor which will be posted on this site soon.

The new plans are available in City Hall. They show a modified building. To avoid the height variance the first floor (parking) will be lowered below ground, about 3 feet at the 745 street side and presumably 6 feet at the other end. In addition to help make the building look smaller they have recessed the top floor by 4 feet giving it the appearance of a four story building from the street.

  • Unable to attend

If you are unable to attend the meeting or would like to make your views known please complete this form.

The information collected will be used to state how many people support or object to the proposed plans and every form will be printed then left with the planning committee.

Please note, there is no assurance that any value will come from completing this form. A personal appearance is the best way to make your views known.

Please also note that any forms that do not contain a valid name and address will not be used.
